FAQs

What is your dog training approach and where are you based?

I use fear free, force free training methods and I am based in Dunollie but I will travel around the West Coast. Coastal Canine Coach is all about gentle, effective techniques that build trust between you and your dog. No harsh methods or quick fixes. I focus on positive reinforcement and understanding what motivates your dog, helping both of you feel confident in every session.

Are puppy training sessions suitable for all breeds and ages?

Yes, my puppy training on the West Coast welcomes all breeds from litters of puppies to 8 weeks old through to 12 months old, I provide private puppy training sessions at your home, I also help to guide you and your puppy along a safe and effective socialization journey outside of your section too. Every puppy learns at their own pace, so each session is tailored for your dog’s age, breed, and personality. Whether you have a tiny terrier or a big bull breed, I support you both with the steps needed to give your pup the best possible start, including basic cues, social skills, and those important house manners.

How do dog walking sessions work?

Walks can be one on one or with a small, carefully selected group of no more then 4 dogs, always with safety and enjoyment in mind. Prior to our walks I will come and do a in home consultation to see which walking service is best suited to your pooch. I pick routes in Greymouth and nearby to suit your dog’s confidence and energy and I also have my car set up to safely transport your pooch to our walking destinations when needed. All walks are supervised with attention to small details, such as your dog’s comfort, behaviour, and their most loved activities.

What areas of the West Coast do you cover?

I am based in Dunollie and cover the wider West Coast region, including places like Hokitika, Runanga, and Dobson. If you are unsure if your area is included, please contact me to discuss. I am often able to travel a little further depending on timing and availability. My goal is to make professional, approachable support accessible for local dogs and their owners.

Is this right for anxious or reactive dogs?

Many of the dogs I work with need a little extra understanding. With ten years experience in rescue settings, I have experience in supporting anxious or reactive dogs where traditional group classes might be too overwhelming. All dog training and walks are adapted to your dog’s unique personality. Coastal Canine Coach provides a non-judgmental, safe space to help nervous dogs set a steady pace for their progress, a real point of difference with my dog training on the West Coast.
